Act Won SHS Theatre Group Trip To State Finals

Sharon performs next on April 1.

The Sharon High School theatre company's rendition of has reached act won in the state festival.

Sharon advanced to the Massachusetts State High School Drama Festival Finals for the first time in four years, after performing in Saturday's semi-finals at Brockton High School, adviser Sandra Dennis told Sharon Patch in an e-mail Sunday night.

Brockton was among seven semi-final host sites, according to the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild, which runs the contest.

Two schools from each site advanced to the March 31 to April 2 finals at Boston's Back Bay Events Center.

Two of these 14 schools will represent Massachusetts at the New England Drama Festival, according to the guild's website.

Dennis said Sharon will perform Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 4 p.m. Friday, April 1.

Sharon last reached the finals four years ago, with "A Christmas Carol," she said.

Sharon last won in 2005, with "Wiley and the Hairy Man," she said. The school also won in 2004, with "The Crane Wife."
