SURVEY: The Top Places to Bring a Visiting Friend in Sharon

Now, we wonder what the answers would have been had we asked in the winter....

Last week, we asked Sharon Patch readers, "OK, you've got a friend or relative coming into town who has never been to Sharon before. What are the top three places you'd bring him/her?"

Crescent Ridge Dairy topped the list, with more than half of the responders including it in his or her list. Maybe it's because it's summer, and the mind is on ice cream, but this dairy farm is a clear favorite with locals. Read the Yelp reviews of Crescent Ridge here, where one poster put "Some of the best ice cream I've ever had. The portions are huge, and a 'small' should be more than enough for pretty much anyone. The lines are long in the summer but it usually moves pretty quickly. Definitely worth the wait." Others, however, complained that prices went up.

Massapoag Lake (which most simply called "The Lake") is a clear winner, getting the second most mentions in Facebook and in emails. The lake, which is home to concerts, swimming, fishing, fireworks and all around summer hanging at Memorial Beach, has about 400 acres of water. Originally, says the Sharon website, it was a summer resort until around the 1940s. It still remains a destination, particularly for townies.

Moose Hill Sanctuary is the Massachusetts Audubon Society's oldest, and biggest, sanctuary. It includes fields, wetlands and protected forests. Groups explore the many hiking trail here, and it is also offers many seasonal programs. It is not only a resource for information and entertainment for Sharon, but the surrounding area.

Honorable mentions:

  • The Historical Society
  • The statue of Deborath Sampson at the Sharon Public Library
  • Ward's Berry Farm
  • Alice's
