WEEI received the 2012 Global Lung Cancer Coalition Journalism Award for extensive coverage on awareness of the disease.

Earlier this week, Sharon resident Jason Wolfe accepted the 2012 Global Lung Cancer Coalition Journalism Award on behalf of Sports Radio WEEI 93.7 this week.

Wolfe, Vice President of Programming and Operations for Entercom Boston, accepted the award at the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil in Boston on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

WEEI was recognized with the award for extensive coverage of lung cancer awareness through the station’s 2012 Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, which took place in August, according to an announcement this week.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized by the Global Lung Cancer Coalition and I’m so proud to accept this award on behalf of all of us at WEEI,” Wolfe said in a statement. “Cancer affects us all, and we are blessed to have had such tremendous success shining a light on this terrible disease through the efforts of the Jimmy Fund radio-telethon. I want to thank everyone at the GLCC for their support. It means a great deal to our entire staff.”
