Local Pet Supply Store to Host Fundraiser for Norfolk County Humane Society

Coolen's Pet Supply will have Santa Claus posing for photos with residents in the area with pets; proceeds go to the Norfolk County Humane Society.

Coolens Pet Supply, located in Canton's Cobb Corner Plaza, will have a fundraiser next Saturday, Dec. 22, from 12-4 p.m. for the Norfolk County Humane Society. Pets will get to pose for photos with Santa Claus for a minimal fee.

The proceeds will benefit the Norfolk County Humane Society which is a 100 percent no-kill shelter and opened in 1991. This organization is non-profit 501(c)3 with an all-volunteer staff.

"What separates us from other humane societys is that we help the elderly and people in need who don't have the funds to get their animals spayed, neutered or have no money for shots. We even offer them food if they are in need," said Helyn Spierdowis, President of the Norfolk County Humane Society. "Pet food is also donated to local food pantries."

"In 2000, we started a new program to raise money by taking unwanted vehicles," said Spierdowis. "Persons will get an IRS 1098(c) form for their donation. Now we are also accepting old cell phones, blankets and towels for a tax deduction."

The Norfolk County Humane Society has placed over 5,000 cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters and birds. They have foster homes who will take these animals if only on a temporary basis, till a forever home is found for the animal. The organization is always looking for foster homes. Those interested should contact 781-828-8084 for more information.
