For This Family, Orthodontics Is A Family Affair

Dad Says, “My daughter’s smile lights up a room.”

“A smile is everything,” says Earl Draper, father of three adult offspring who all have photogenic smiles.

It’s been 10 years since his youngest finished Orthodontic treatment at ARCH Orthodontics with Dr. Robert Chavez and his son, Dr. Andrew Chase. “This year,” Earl says, “It was my turn. And my wife is next.”

“I’ve seen firsthand how their smiles gave my kids self-confidence,” says Draper who’s in his early 50’s.  “I’m convinced that their success is due in part to their appearance. My daughter’s teeth are ravishing – like out of a magazine. Her smile lights up a room.”  (In photo left to right, Kimberly, Christopher and Matthew Draper)

Draper’s oldest, Christopher, 27, is a graduate of Boston’s Wentworth Institute of Technology and is following in his dad’s footsteps in the commercial real estate industry as a construction project manager. Son Matthew, 22, will graduate Wentworth this summer with the same major.  And daughter Kimberly, 25, graduated Simmons College’s School of Nursing and is working toward her goal to become a Nurse Practitioner.

“In my work, I represent the landlord, so when I’m talking to a tenant, I want to project the best possible image,” says Draper. “My new smile and appearance give me added confidence. I don’t want to show any imperfections or to be uncomfortable.” His job puts him in regular contact with high-profile tenants in several of Boston’s landmark properties owned by Equity Office Properties, part of The Blackstone Group.

On a dental check-up, Draper’s dentist suggested addressing teeth shifting and misalignment issues caused by a tooth injury years ago. That’s when Draper reconnected with Drs. Chavez and Chase.  “Over the years, I related well with Dr. Chavez. He’s very professional but we share a sense of humor,” he says.

And recently, when his wife Cheryl saw her dentist for crown repairs, the dentist noted her ‘bite’ was off and recommended realignment. “This truly makes it a family affair,” Draper smiles.

Dr. Chavez says that, during his 40 years of practice, there have been many cases in which all the children in a family have needed braces, but it’s not as common to have both parents as patients, too.

Draper likes to think he is as attentive and accommodating to his tenants as the ARCH staff has been to his family: “They did their best to make appointment times fit our busy school and work schedules.  Everything     was explained and our questions were always answered completely and cheerfully.”

Dr. Chavez says the ARCH team adheres to 5 core values: Support, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect and              Excellence. “The acronym SPIRE makes it easy to remember and implement with every patient.”
