Filipkowski is Perfect

Alec Filipkowski pitched a perfect game for the Angels against the Tigers last Wednesday in the Sharon Youth Baseball’s American League.  Filipkowski, a 6th grader at Sharon Middle School, struck out 15 batters and needed only 74 pitchers to record the 18 outs.  In the fifth inning, Tigers’ batter Jack Zinman got ahead with a three ball, zero strike count, but Filipkowski induced an infield pop up to preserve the gem.  Angels catchers Ethan Skelly, Brendan Arnold and Andrew Burton guided the pitcher through his perfect game.  The 4-0 win brought the Angels to two wins and two losses on the season, even with the Tigers and one game behind the leading Rays.

In other action, Eric Jansky hit his first career home run over the left field fence to help the Rays to a 20-16 win over the Royals in a slugfest.
