Community to Mark Kehillah Schechter Academy’s 25th Anniversary APRIL 6th EVENT

Marking the 25th anniversary of Kehillah Schechter Academy (KSA - formerly the South Area Solomon Schechter School) in Norwood, Mass., the community will gather to honor the school’s Immediate Past President of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Michael Agus of Newton, with the prestigious Lester Gilson Memorial Community Service Award.

April 6, beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the Jane Taubenfeld Cohen campus, One Commerce Way, off Rte. 1, Norwood.

During his tenure at KSA, Dr. Agus was credited with providing inspired leadership and astute guidance during challenging times.  In his professional life, he serves as Division Chief of Medicine Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital, is widely acclaimed as a pediatric intensivist and endocrinologist, and

has received grants from the National Institutes of Health. His findings have been published in top medical journals. He has served as leader of the Newton Centre Minyan. He and his wife Elisa have three sons, Eytan (class of ‘11), Noah (class of ‘13) and Kobe (class of ‘17).

Introducing Dr. Michael Agus and presenting the Lester Gilson Award to him will be his brother, Dr. David Agus, Professor of Medicine and Engineering at the University of Southern California. Also a distinguished physician, he is a New York Times bestselling author, and co-founder of two revolutionary companies in personalized medicine: Navigenics and Applied Proteomics.  Additionally, he serves as a CBS News contributor. Dr. David Agus’s research related to cancer and the development of new medications has earned wide acclaim.

The celebration continues when following the program, guests are invited to choose to travel to one of three intimate Anniversary Host Dinners featuring world renowned luminaries, held at local homes of school supporters.   

Special guests at these dinners will be:

Benjamin Zander, Conductor, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra - Talk about classical music and the "Art of Possibility" with this renowned conductor and speaker. 

 Dr. Laurence Kotler-Berkowitz, Senior Director of Research and Analysis, Jewish Federations of North America -- Discuss the recent Pew Research Center survey of U.S. Jews with one of the project's advisors.

 Dr. Robert S. Langer, David H. Koch Institute Professor, MIT –  Spend an evening with the most cited engineer in history and one of the world's most prolific inventors in medicine. 

The award being presented to Dr. Michael Agus is named for Lester Gilson, lifelong leader in the Greater Boston philanthropic community and an original supporter of Kehillah Schechter Academy, along with his wife, Connie.
