Celtic Group Pendragon to Perform at Not Just Another Coffeehouse in January
Sharon, MA - Pendragon will be peforming at Not Just Another Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Church ofSharon on January 19, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $15.00. The organization is not for profit, so maypay what they can. The facility is handicapped accessible.
Looking forward to their 30th anniversary in 2013, Pendragon has embraced the tradition of Celtic musicand created a timeless sound of its own, performing roots music with an unmistakable contemporaryedge. Pendragon's music celebrates the lives and lore of generations of New Englanders who broughttraditions from Ireland, Scotland, French Canada and other distant shores to the banks of the BlackstoneRiver.
The band seamlessly blends lively jigs and reels with Mary Lee Partington's original songs depicting theexperiences of the immigrants who settled here. Pendragon performs their original songs and dancetunes on a combination of fiddle, flute, bouzouki, concertina, banjo, guitar, whistle, and percussion. Inperformance, the group elaborates on the cultural and historical context of the music while projecting ahumorous stage presence that comes from almost 30 years of performance together.
The band released their 8th album, "Still Standing," on Blackstone River Theatre's RiverFolk Productionslabel in late 2008.
Past tributes include three straight Boston Music Award nominations for Outstanding Celtic Act and aGovernor's Tourism Award. Pendragon was voted Rhode Island's Best Celtic Act in the 2011, 2010, 2009,2008, 2007, 2006 and 2005 MOTIF Magazine Best Music Polls. They have also been voted Best Local FolkAct of the Year in the Providence Phoenix' Best Music Poll eight times.
Pendragon is comprised of step dancer and percussionist Kevin Doyle, Bob Drouin on fiddle, bouzoukiand tenor banjo; Russell Gusetti on guitar and concertinas; Josh Kane on flute and whistles; and MaryLee Partington on vocals.
Not Just Another Coffeehouse is occurs on the third Saturday of the month at the Unitarian Church ofSharon in Sharon, MA.
