It's good that the Thanksgiving Day game between the Eagles and the Tigers is happening on a football field. Because the Tigers have a decided edge in the super-hero realms. Super-heroes named Eagle have hovered in obscurity -- unlike Tigers such as DC Comics' Bronze Tiger, a martial artist who at least appeared in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon. Here's a look at the Eagle-Tiger rivalry from the multiverse, starting with the Eagles: Golden Eagle: a young, aspiring Hawkman. He flies. He has been a member of DC's Teen Titans splinter group, Titans West, which has never had its own …
Some artists aspire to draw the Justice League. Comic book artist Jack Purcell is drawing the National Hockey League. The Western Mass. resident is penciling one five-page issue and inking four others of The Guardian Project, the Stan Lee and NHL team-up featuring the 30 pro teams' mascots as super-heroes. Each issue focuses on a different character, he says. Purcell says he has drawn the Carolina Hurricanes' Guardian, who has wind powers. "I haven't been doing the Bruins, unfortunately. That would be cool," he said recently. "Initially, we were talking about penciling and inking. Then, they …
The Blue Lantern Corps' newest member can't save the universe on Friday night and Saturday morning. Rabbi Joseph Meszler is busy leading Sabbath services at Temple Sinai of Sharon. The Blue Lanterns are part of the DC Comics mythology of Green Lantern, a member of an intergalactic police force that uses a power ring that runs on the officer's willpower (as long as the ring is recharged at its user's power battery every 24 hours). The Green Lantern comics recently established other ring-wielding groups, based on the emotional and color spectrums. The Red Lantern Corps are about hate. The Black…

New pages are posted every Friday at www.skypiratesofvalendor.com. The Jolly Roger is the symbol of Sky Pirates, which Soares writes and Brian Brinlee pencils. The series follows the adventures of the crew of the Rogue's Revenge, led by Captain Tobin Manheim. The first five issues, plus bonus material, have been collected as Sky Pirates of Valendor Volume 1. The book is available through the comic's website. And, according to his blog, Everett has …
With four long shelves worth of recent super-hero and manga titles just in one room, Danielle Margarida's comic book collection resembles a comic book shop on Wednesday, when the new issues arrive. Except, fanboys don't need an Avengers Priority Identi-Card to borrow one of Margarida's books. Just a Sharon Public Library card. New comics day is Wednesday everywhere in the U.S. except at the public libraries – many of which now carry trade paperbacks and sometimes individual issues, all the time. The Sharon library's collection is among the larger and more current local ones. Those shelves …
