Even though the Sharon High School girls gymnastics team has a new head coach this winter, the Eagles hope to remain as successful as they have been over the past several years. A year ago, Sharon completed the dual-meet campaign with a 10-2 overall record. The Eagles placed second in the Hockomock League with an 8-2 mark, finishing second to Mansfield, which completed the season 11-0 overall and 10-0 in the league. Last year, the Sharon High School boys and girls swimming teams each went 5-3 and "Mansfield was our biggest rival," coach Adrienne Smutko says. So, guess who Sharon opens its seasons against tonight? The Eagles face the Hornets at 7:30 at Wheaton College in Norton. This winter, the Sharon High School varsity boys basketball team hopes combining a talented group of seniors with a solid corps of youngsters will help it compete for the Hockomock League Davenport Division championship and a berth in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament. Young Sharon High School boys and girls winter track team open their seasons Saturday against Foxboro High School. The boys squad will feature six seniors: Josh Arons, Luke Fisher, Matthew Goldberg, Derrick Mann, Vladimir Nere and Will Ostrow. The girls squad has four seniors: captains Sara Gildersleeve and Caroline McClain, and classmates Meaghan Perry and Kelsey Sullivan. Both meets start at 9 a.m. at the Franklin High fieldhouse. With a smaller lineup and a new system, the Sharon High School varsity girls basketball team will seek its fifth consecutive postseason appearance this winter.
