Even though the Sharon High School girls gymnastics team has a new head coach this winter, the Eagles hope to remain as successful as they have been over the past several years. A year ago, Sharon completed the dual-meet campaign with a 10-2 overall record. The Eagles placed second in the Hockomock League with an 8-2 mark, finishing second to Mansfield, which completed the season 11-0 overall and 10-0 in the league. Sharon was seeded ninth at the MIAA South Sectional in Hudson and finished eighth overall with a score of 136.525. This winter, Jessica Hiltz takes over the reins as Eagles head …
Last year, the Sharon High School boys and girls swimming teams each went 5-3 and "Mansfield was our biggest rival," coach Adrienne Smutko says. So, guess who Sharon opens its seasons against tonight? The Eagles face the Hornets at 7:30 at Wheaton College in Norton. Smutko is looking forward to competitive meets tonight, based on the teams' last meeting. "It was our best meet," says Smutko, in her second year leading Sharon. "Even though we lost, they pushed kids to bring their fastest times. I think we lost by two points." The boys team, Smutko says, "looks solid. We have a lot of good …
This winter, the Sharon High School varsity boys basketball team hopes combining a talented group of seniors with a solid corps of youngsters will help it compete for the Hockomock League Davenport Division championship and a berth in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament. The Eagles lost seven seniors from last year, but return a trio of talented senior captains: point guard Josh Parness, guard Eric Tung and forward Eric Bennett. Sharon will look to get off to a good start to the season, despite having to play five of its first six games on the road. The Eagles will open the …

The girls squad has four seniors: captains Sara Gildersleeve and Caroline McClain, and classmates Meaghan Perry and Kelsey Sullivan. Both meets start at 9 a.m. at the Franklin High fieldhouse. The boys lost to Foxboro last year. The Eagles finished the season 1-8, the victory coming against Bedford. The girls team, meanwhile, tied Foxboro last …
The next step. That is what the Sharon High School wrestling team strives to take this season. Sharon will open its season Saturday, competing in a quad meet in Braintree at 1 p.m. Along with the hosts the Eagles will also wrestle Whitman-Hanson and Sandwich. However, that quest may challenging, considering the Eagle lineup will be loaded with sophomores and the team competes in the Hockomock League, among the best leagues in Massachusetts. The Eagles finished last year with a 9-13-1 overall record and were seeded 10th in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Team Tournament. Sharon split…
With a smaller lineup and a new system, the Sharon High School varsity girls basketball team will seek its fifth consecutive postseason appearance this winter. "We have a smaller team this year, so we are running a new system," said Kate Horsmann, who is in her fifth year as head coach, having taken the Eagles to the postseason in her previous four seasons. "It will be a huge transition for the girls. We will need to see what works and what doesn't work. Our goals this year are to play as a team and get into the tournament. Getting into the tournament will be the biggest thing for us." The …
