(VIDEO) Fireworks Entertain Over Sharon's Lake Massapoag

The rockets ended Sharon's Independence Day celebration on a high note.

Sharon residents packed Veteran's Memorial Park Beach on Tuesday night to gaze into the sky above Lake Massapoag.

The colorful fireworks display was the 22 minutes the crowd at Sharon's Independence Day celebration waited for.

The festivities began with a Bicycle and Doll Carriage Parade up Beach Street, from Beech Tree Park to the beach.

Then, several groups offered activities or food at the beach.

The Sunnyrock 4-H Club, for example, held pony rides and a petting zoo. The Back Roads Band performed on the bandstand. And a pie-eating contest was held.

The Sharon Fourth of July Committee organized the festivities. The fireworks were entirely funded by donations.

Great Job by Our Town and the 4th of July / Independence day Committee, as usual!
But one has to wonder...where were all those residents who "Packed the Beach" to observe the fireworks on the 3rd, for The Memorial Day, Flag Day and Veterans day observances and ceremonies?? It's a shame the towns folks can't take the time to recognize and come out and take part in the other "Patriotic" observances over the year. Are they not just as important????!!! Is honoring our Veterans, Fallen soldiers who fought so YOU can have this Independence day and our Countries Flag just as important as out Independence Day Celebration???!!! Or does it take a Terrorist attack for everyone to "Rally around The Flag" to instill patriotism in ones family? Just food for thought for everyone to take a step back and think....is it too much of an inconvenience to give 2 hours total a year to come out and show ones Patriotism 4 or 5 times through the course of the year other than for the Independence day celebrations?

Thanks to the July 4 Committee for doing a great job for the younger children. After the bicycle and carriage parade, there were free ice cream, flags, and necklaces. The 4-H club did a wonderful job with pony rides, lamb feeding, and rabbits. My 5 year old person enjoyed those activities, plus swimming, very much . . . just right for younger children in the afternoon.
