Arons Gets A Sixth, Gildersleeve A Seventh At State Division 2 Meet

Eagles next have All-State meet, on Feb. 26.

Two co-captains had the Eagles' best performances during Saturday's state meet.

For the boys, senior Josh Arons finished sixth in the 300 meter dash during the meet, known as the MIAA Division 2 Indoor Track Championships. Arons' time was 37.37 seconds, according to Cool Running. King Philip Regional High School junior Charles Ruffin won the event with a time of 35.21 seconds; the meet record is 35.18 seconds, set in 2005 by Revere High's Merzudin Ibric.

For the girls, Sharon senior Sara Gildersleeve finished seventh in the 55-meter dash, with a time of 7.53 seconds. Arlington High School junior Rebecca Robinson set a meet record, 7.19 seconds. The old mark was 7.28 seconds, set by Boston Latin Academy's Jardine Kimbrel in 2002.

The Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury hosted both meets.

Mansfield won both team meets.

In the boys standings, the Hornets had 98 points. Sharon was tied for 30th with Arlington and Norwood, with three points each.

Mansfield's girls team had 67 points. Sharon, Walpole, Gloucester, Amherst-Pelham Regional and Woburn were tied for 34th with two points each.

Besides Arons and Gildersleeve, Sharon got these individual performances:

For the boys, senior Tyler Shepard placed 24th in the 300 meter dash, with a time of 39.08 seconds; junior Dan Scribner placed 38th in the 600 meters, with a time of 1:31.85 minutes; junior Connor Hichens placed tied for 21st in the long jump, with a leap of 18 feet, 10.5 inches; the 4 by 200 meter relay team of Arons, junior Xander Bennett, junior James Collins and Shepard placed 11th, with a time of 1:37.06 minutes; and the 4 by 400 meter relay team of Hichens, freshman James Gildersleeve, and juniors Aaron Langley and Ben Ryter placed 19th, with a time of 3:45.96 minutes.

For the girls, junior Hayley Kats placed 27th in the 300 meter dash, with a time of 45.13 minutes; senior co-captain Caroline McClain placed 24th in the 600 meters, with a time of 1:46.85 minutes; senior Julia Rotman tied for 29th in the shot put, with a throw of 28 feet, 00.75 inches; freshman Rita Kushner placed 23rd in the high jump, with a leap of 4 feet, 1o inches; and the 4 by 400 meter relay team of Gildersleeve, Kats, junior Meri Kushner and Rita Kushner placed 15th, with a time of 4:20.68 minutes.
