A new 5K co-sponsored by a Sharon eatery to support a Sharon-based elder services agency was won by a Sharon High School cross-country and track coach today.
Philip Gingras won the First Annual Mick Morgan's 5K this morning in a time of 18:13.
The race started and ended at Mick Morgan's Irish Pub and Restaurant. The Route 1 business partnered with HESSCO Elder Services, right down the street, on the event. The proceeds will benefit HESSCO's programs for local seniors and their caregivers.
Gingras and the top female finisher, Jacqueline Cuscia of Scituate, received trophies. Cuscia finished in 22:34. The top two male and female finishers in each age group received medals.
"It's a fun experience, just coming out for St. Patrick's Day," said Gingras, who won the Sharon Five Mile Road Race last June.
"I had a couple of friends running. They told me about it, so I figured I'd just give it a shot. I hadn't raced in a while. I just wanted to have some fun."
Sharon Patch will have more results once they're posted on www.coolrunning.com.
