Sharon The Home of The Hawks As Well As Eagles

Several hawks nest/breed in town, Moose Hill director says. Dead hawk reported found in Sharon roadway over weekend, Sharon Police say.

A dead hawk reportedly was found in a Sharon roadway over the weekend, Sharon Police said today.

Although Sharon is the home of the Eagles, hawks apparently are quite common here too.

"There are several hawks that nest/breed in Sharon. Red-tailed hawks, cooper hawk, red-shouldered hawk, broad-winged hawks. Probably many more hunt and find food here as well," Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary Director Christine Turnbull said.

"Even though they are large birds they can be very secretive and go unnoticed. We see them soaring over our farm fields."

The dead hawk reportedly was found on Nauset Road at 12:39 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sharon Police log.
