Sharon Patch Scoreboard: Boys' Basketball Team to Face North Quincy Saturday

The Sharon High boys' basketball team is going to play Quincy Saturday at home at 5 p.m. in the Division 2 South tournament quarterfinals in a match-up of 12th and 13th seeded teams.

 

 

The Sharon High boys' basketball team is going to play Quincy Saturday at home at 5 p.m. in the Division 2 South tournament quarterfinals in a match-up of 12th and 13th seeded teams. The Eagles (14-7) were seeded 12th and knocked out Silver Lake, 78-71, while Quincy (13-8, 13th seed) beat Randolph, 53-42. The winner of Saturday's game will face Hingham or Scituate in the semifinals. Check out the pairings at the MIAA site.

The Sharon girls' basketball team was knocked out the postseason by Fontbonne Academy, dropping a 61-36 decision in the first round of the Division 2 South tournament. Sharon finished the season with a 13-8 record, while Fontbonne will be playing Duxbury Saturday at 4 p.m. quarterfinal match-up. 

The Sharon High girls' gymnastics team finished second in the All-State Meet at the DCU Center in Worcester, losing to Barnstable, 146.650 to 145.350. Samantha Kaplan was second in the all-around. She was second in the beam, tied for third on the floor and fifth in the vault.

Jessica Cabot, Natalie Maidment, Alicia Dagle, Chelsie Noller, Molly Rappaport, Rachel Greene, Marielle Fisher, Pamela Greenstein and Emily Whooten took part in the meet for the Eagles. See the complete results at the MIAA site.

The Eagles were second in the South Sectionals with 144.350. Kaplan was first in the all-around with 37.900, while Cabot was ninth at 36.878. See the complete results at Hockomock Sports.

The boys' 4 X 800 meter relay team was 13th at the All-State Track Meet in 8:16.41.

COLLEGE NOTES:

Sharon's Connor Hitchens, a freshmen, competed for the Bentley University's men's indoor track team at the New England Championships at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center, Feb. 23. Hichens moved to sixth on the Falcons’ all-time list in the triple jump, with his 43 feet, 7.75 inch leap a new personal best. The Bentley men’s team did not score during the two-day meet. Hitchens also had an eight-place showing in the triple jump (42’0.75”) at Northeast-10 Championships as the Falcons were fifth in the 11-team meet.

Molly Bloom is a senior defender at Oberlin College for the women's lacrosse team, who will open up the season Saturday at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, OH. Last year, Bloom was third in scoring with 26 goals and 33 points.

Dan Friedman is a sophomore pitcher for the Union College baseball team, who will open up the season with a doubleheader against Clark University in Orlando. As a freshman, the righthander had 18 strikeouts in nine appearances, including three starts. He was 0-2 with a 5.85 earned average.

Sharon's Caroline McManus, who attended Emma Willard in Troy, N.Y, is a senior defender for the University of Rochester women's lacrosse team, who will open the season against Ithaca College, March 6, at 4 p.m.
