Sharon High Theatre's State Festival Bid Ends

Danvers and Framingham advance from Saturday's semi-finals.

The Sharon High School Theatre Company's pursuit of a second straight trip to the state finals ended Saturday.

Sharon did not advance after performing "The Cripple of Inishmaan" during a 81st Annual Massachusetts High School Drama Festival 2012 semi-final held at Framingham High School, according to the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild's website.

Sharon was among six schools competing at Framingham High, among seven host schools for the semi-finals.

Two schools from each site advanced to the finals, which are March 22 to March 24. At Framingham, they were Danvers, which performed "Medea"; and Framingham, which performed "The Shadow Box."

The New England Festival is April 26 to April 28 in Gilford, N.H., according to the theater guild's website.

Sharon reached the semi-finals after performing "The Cripple of Inishmaan" during the preliminary round on March 3. The Sharon High auditorium was among 14 host sites statewide for the 2012 prelims, which included 115 schools.

Last year, Sharon performed Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the state finals.
