Sharon Health Board Might Ban Tobacco Sales At Pharmacies

Public input sought on March 28.

The board of health might ban tobacco sales from Sharon's pharmacies.

The board is inviting public input on the topic at its March 28 meeting, at 7:30 p.m. in the .

, in Shaw’s Plaza, and CVS, next to town hall, would be affected, member Andrew Stead said during the board’s discussion last week.

Member Stanley Rosen said he’s a pharmacist, and he’s aware of “many independent pharmacies that have taken this approach and chose not to sell cigarettes.”

“I personally think it’s a good thing,” Rosen said

Health Administrator Linda Rosen said the board licenses cigarette sales, and six Sharon stores have them.

Board member Edward Welch asked, “why would we give people licenses to sell cigarettes when we know that it’s bad for your health?”

Earlier this winter, compliance check visits to the stores found no violations of board of health regulations.
