Sharon Has No Issues With Fireworks Company That Ran Town's Display
However, uncertainty about that company's license will prompt Sharon to request proposals from other firms in December.
No unexploded July 4 fireworks shells were found after Sharon's celebration last Tuesday night or in 2011, Sharon Friends of the Fourth Committee Chairman Paul Bergeron said today.
The Massachusetts Fire Marshal's office last week suspended the license of that Pennsylvania-based fireworks company, Pyrotecnico, after unexploded shells were found after Waltham's July 4 show.
Bergeron said Sharon officials "don't have any issue" with Pyrotechnico, which has done the town's July 3 fireworks show the past two years.
However, Sharon will request proposals from fireworks companies in December for the 2013 display, he said.
"We don't know the status of Pyrotechnico, and we don't want to wait," Bergeron explained.
Interested companies may contact the Sharon volunteer July 4 committee to ensure they get mailed a proposal, Bergeron said. The committee's e-mail address is sharonjuly4@gmail.com.
The Friends of the Fourth typically use this process every few years, and hired Pyrotecnico through it, Bergeron said.
Pyrotechnico has followed the Sharon Fire Department's post-fireworks process both years, he said.
After the display, Pyrotechnico searches the fireworks area using DC-current lights to ensure that each canister fired, Bergeron said.
Pyrotechnico staff have stayed with the equipment overnight. The next morning, they and Sharon fire officials have searched Lake Massapoag and the area for unexploded shells, he said.
"They didn't find any deficiencies," Bergeron said.
