Sharon Girls Tennis Narrowly Defeated in State Tourney Match

Foxborough wins South D2 quarterfinal, 3-2, on Tuesday.

 

The Sharon High School girls tennis team's season was ended by Foxborough on Tuesday.

Foxborough defeated Sharon, 3-2, in the 2012 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Team Tennis South Division 2 quarterfinals at the Brown/Billone Club in North Easton, according to the tournament bracket.

Ninth-seed Sharon finished the regular season 13-5 and then went 1-1 in the tournament. The Eagles defeated eighth-seed Apponequet Regional, 5-0, in a first round match last Friday.

Foxborough advances to Thursday's South D2 semifinals against Scituate, according to the bracket. The winner reaches the South D2 finals against the winner of today's Hingham-Hopkinton semifinal.

Foxborough is seeded first in the 17-team bracket. The Warriors finished the regular season 18-0 and are 2-0 in the tournament. They defeated 16-seed Bishop Stang, 4-1, in a first round match Monday.

Scituate, seeded fourth, was 16-1 during the season and is 2-0 in the tournament.

Foxborough, Scituate, Apponequet and Sharon all received preliminary round byes.
