While it is a beautiful sunny day at 2 p.m. with blue skies, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the eastern part of Massachusetts.
The National Weather Service said radar is indicating there may be severe, scattered storms between 5 and 8 p.m.
These storms are expected to include strong to damaging winds, large hail, heavy downpours and frequent lightning.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is for most of Southern New England. A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. A watch can be changed to a warning.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to increase in intensity this afternoon and may not occur in every area. The risk of these severe storms will diminish as the sun sets.
