Proposed Foxborough Casino Concerns Sharon Resident

He has signed No Foxboro Casino's online petition.

Matthew Baldassari sees a casino on Route 1 in Foxborough as drawing bad things to Sharon, where he has resided since the mid-1980s.

"You're going to see traffic and you're going to see crime go up" in Sharon, Baldassari said Monday.

Although Wynn Resorts' proposed casino site is in Foxborough, residents of neighboring communities are joining the fight against it, says Chris Lowery, No Foxboro Casino's volunteer coordinator. Foxborough residents are driving this volunteer effort.

"This is a regional issue. It will affect the whole area," Lowery says.

In Sharon, Baldassari said he has signed No Foxboro Casino's online petition asking businessman Robert Kraft to withdraw his proposal to lease land on Route 1 in Foxborough to Wynn Resorts Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO Steve Wynn for development of a casino.

Baldassari said he saw No Foxboro Casino's signs in the area, found the group's Facebook page, and then found its website.

Although Sharon is a few miles away from the proposed casino site, "people will cut through North Main Street and South Main Street" if Wynn builds the complex, Baldassari said.

"I don't think it's a big necessity in this area," he said of the casino.

"I think it's going to be a big burden on this area."

Under a recent Foxboro/Patch.com article regarding the casino issue in Foxboro, I posted the following comment on Thursday, May 17, 2012 for consideration. Article entitled: "What's Next for Kraft Property" - May 14, 2012 - I wrote: "There are other options for that property, and not a casino. For instance, what would the interest level be for something like this there......1) http://www.cooperstowndreamspark.com. Home of The American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame. With a similar type of baseball park across the street from Gillette Stadium, hypothetically for now of course.....but there are plenty of uses for that land. Thank you Bob Kraft for keeping an open mind....provided this comment reaches you. The post is also currently on the Easton/Patch.com site as well.
