The Franklin High School varsity girls basketball team entering tonight’s game with Sharon undefeated didn't stop the Eagles from attempting an upset.
However, the visiting Panthers lived up to their No. 11 ranking and unblemished record, cruising to a 63-40 win over the Eagles to improve to 11-0.
"They made a lot of shots and are actually a better shooting team than they showed tonight,"said Sharon head coach Kate Horsmann, whose team fell to 6-4.
"They're a good team and we don't match up real well with them."
Franklin senior guard Catie Phelan scored 12 of her team-high 14 points in the first half, including hitting two 3-pointers to give the Panthers a 34-14 halftime lead.
"I don’t think it was anything that we didn't expect, we just didn't show good poise after we got down early," Horsmann said.
"They're 20 points better than us on any night, even if we're hitting our shots."
The lack of successful shots hurt the Eagles, who missed many of the good opportunities they had in the first half.
Sophomore guard Andrea Bender led the Eagles with a game-high 15 points — five 3-pointers.
Both teams are off until Friday. Sharon travels to Mansfield at 6:45 p.m. Franklin hosts Canton at 6:30 p.m.
