Charles Sam W. Bassett, 78, died July 15, 2012 after a long illness in Plymouth, MA. He was buried with military honors at a memorial service held at the National Cemetery in Bourne on July 18, 2012. Born in Waltham, MA to Calvin and Bertha Bassett, he was raised in Natick, MA. He was a member of the 1951 Natick High Hockey Team which was recently inducted into the Natick High School Hall of Fame. Charles served in the U.S. Air force during the Korean Conflict and after returning to Massachusetts, he graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in education and later earned his masters degree from Framingham State College. He helped develop elementary school science programs in Africa and also worked as the Vice Principal of the middle school in Sharon, MA. In his later years, Charles worked and lived in Boca Grande, FL, Duxbury, MA and Plymouth, MA and proudly supported the efforts to build a new American Legion facility in Plymouth. He is remembered by friends and family as an avid adventurer having worked and travelled throughout the U.S., Africa and other parts of the world. Charles is survived by his wife Janet of Plymouth; son Richard and wife Amy of Webster; son Michael and wife Roberta Weiner of Holliston; daughter Dawn and husband David Craig; daughter Jennifer and husband John Glynn and daughter Melissa and husband Michael Markou all of Milford; sister Barbara DiGiorgio of Penacook, NH; brother Wayne Bassett of Dayton, Ohio; brother Warren Bassett of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; former wife Judith MacKenzie of Milford, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
