Whiz Kid’s Accomplishment:

When Tabitha May isn't swimming competitively, she sees herself reflected in the pool.

The Sharon Middle School eighth-grader swims for the Sharon Sea Eagles, as well as the Attleboro Bluefish USA Gold Medal Swimming Club.

She also is in her second year as a lane coach for the Sea Eagles, one of the eighth-graders and high school students who tell "the kids how to do the sets, and then critiquing them."

"It's fun," says May, 13.

"Sometimes, it can be aggravating, because I try to say things the kids would understand, but sometimes I say more swimming terms that they understand but could not really grasp.

"I see how excited I was, all of the same mistakes I did, and how much fun it was to be on the swim team."

May says she took her first swimming lessons at six months.

"My parents always told me I always loved the water," she says.

The 200 Breast recently became May's favorite event, "because recently I've been very good at (the) breaststroke. That's just been one of my best events."

May says she swims for two-and-a-half hours every weekday, and three hours on weekends.

She doesn't see herself stopping anytime soon.

"I want to stick with it, because it's a lifetime sport," she says.
