Some landscaping wholesalers are interested in opening on a Route 1 site, if Sharon voters expand the uses allowed there.
An article on the Nov. 14 fall special town meeting warrant proposes adding "General retail and wholesale landscaping equipment, supply and service business" to the uses allowed in the light industrial zoning district.
The article is a citizen petition submitted by Martha Raider, an owner of 675 General Edwards Highway, which is Route 1.
Developing Raider's 6.7-acre site right now would require investing "several hundreds of thousands of dollars" to bring water and electricity to it, realtor David Wluka, representing the property owners, told the finance committee Monday night.
Located between the Sharon Motel and Herb Chambers Lexus, the vacant site includes about 4.5 acres of wetlands and buffer, Wluka said.
"It's a fairly challenged piece of property," he said.
"The nearest water is over 1,000 feet away."
More than one landscaping wholesaler has expressed interest in the site, Wluka said.
If the town meeting request passes, the site could host a business that could sell, for example, tractors or concrete block, he said.
