Is Sharon a Good Town for Aging, Retirement?
Let us know what you think; weigh in with your input today.
Aging isn't always a popular topic of conversation. But for all of us, it's inevitable.
What's easier to control, however, is where you might choose to age, or, if possible, retire one day. We're wondering if you think Sharon falls into that area.
But it's not always that easy; finding a place to grow old can still be a difficult decision.
A recent study by the Milken Institute, an economic think tank, ranks the top U.S. cities for growing old, according to a recent report on The Huffington Post. And while it's not number one, the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy area ranked fourth on the list (behind regions in Omaha, Nebraska; Madison, Wisconsin and Provo-Orem, Utah, which ranked Number One in the list).
But what about Sharon? Do you, as a local resident, think the town is ideal for aging and/or retiring?

While We are a community very proud in having excellence in our police and fire/EMT response and of course the well known advantage to our youth in the esteem educators have towards the Sharon Public School system which affords excellence to most of the youth, while those w/special needs have further comment, yet in replying to this specific question, unfortunately excessive tax rate prompts 4 out 5 to say no! Therefore, with those having the financial security, surely Sharon is safe and an easy commute w/commuter rail and access to highway grid, however to many, it seems apparent to many that the upper threshhold in tax rate per home has reached the very top and unfortunately with falling prices and a worsening economy and a community which can vote for "Mr. Barney" and thsoe like "Smug-smiled Pelosi and Harry Reed along with this Chicago city slicker with his empty promise of - change - the only change we have seen are the last few pennies left in our pocket stripped from us,
Let's continue to support the community in every way, however yes, many elderly and even younger family folks are in dire consequence

To further my coment, while many of us can well afford Sharon and are very proud to reside here and make every effort to make our respective contribution in some way, the "batlway bandits" and the challenges faced by many is our concern and as this economy worsens and whether democrat or Republican with little solution and eight sitting Presidents and a number of Congressional opportunities to establish a national Energy program, we still see the high gasoline prices and this too portrays the failure of governing....

in ending my reply, let us hope that both democrat and Republican can achieve some harmony though it is apparent that the struggle between the 50/50 split in this once great nation will continue to bring wide differences to opinion among voter and while this is seemingly quite evident even among journalists who we rely on in their expected objectivity, we were once the Beacon of Hope to so, so many even far yonder and now we cannot even reach to the natural and legal citizen who willingly pursued a process to their citizenry and today it is a growing number among us who are feeling oppressed. While the elder, like many of us in Sharon have had varied and invaluable Life experience, is Sharon a godo retiirement community, yes, however only for the dwindling numbers of those who had saved enough and had not relied upon equity value in their home as recent reports suggest that many Americans have little more than 25k in actual available cash when retiring. Hard to believe, however maybe reality for many more than we perceive...and possibly many more fellow residents here in Sharon as well.

Sharon is a nice town but our tax rates are among the highest in this state. Many citizens have been anti-business here. While we have excellent Police and Fire Departments with very caring, skilled and professionals, a super school system and a great public library, I don't see Sharon as a retirement-friendly community, tax-wise.
