Heat Wave in Sharon Ending With Boom

Showers and thunderstorms should arrive mainly after 4 p.m., the National Weather Service in Taunton says.

It's time for Sharon residents to trade their beach umbrellas for standard ones.

After two-and-a-half days of beating the heat and humidity by swimming in pools and in Lake Massapoag, the community will get drenched starting this afternoon.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will hit Sharon today, mainly after 4 p.m., the National Weather Service in Taunton says.

Heavy rain is expected mainly after 10 p.m., according to the agency's website.

The rain will continue on Saturday, with a break Sunday before returning on Monday and possibly Tuesday.

The temperature is expected to drop with the rain.

Saturday's high of near 82 degrees would end the first heat wave of 2012. Three straight days of 90 degrees or more constitutes an official heat wave.
