Sharon High Division 3 Super Bowl Champions!!!!

The Sharon High football team played for the first time in the Division 3 Super Bowl against Wayland Saturday at Bentley University in Waltham. The Eagles posted a 12-3 win over Wayland.

From worst to first, the Sharon High football team completed their historic 2012 ride by beating Wayland, 12-3, in the Division 3 Super Bowl at Bentley Univeristy Saturday.

A strong defensive, by an interception by Brad Schiff, and two touchdowns by Sean Asnes, led the Eagles to their first title.

On the opening kickoff of the second half, Asnes flew by the Wayland kickoff team for an 82-yard touchdown and a 12-0 lead at 9:40 mark of the third quarter.

Before the quarter ended, Wayland ended the shutout with a 30-yard field by Eric MacLean. Sharon was called for roughing the kicker on the play, but the penalty was given on the kickoff.

Before the first half ended, Asnes caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Sean O'Neil on a third down and goal play, diving into the end zone for a 6-0 lead. The extra-point attempt failed.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle, which played into the Eagles' pregame strategy.

Sharon won the Hockomock League's Davenport Division and then beat Pembroke, 7-6, in the playoff round to advance to the Super Bowl.

I went to Sharon High School in the 1940's and they did not have football then. Can anyone tell me what year the team started and why they didn't have football before?
