Breaking Cooking 'Boundaries' In Sharon
Reema Chandra's new SCTV show promotes cooking as enjoyable in many varieties.
Reema Chandra so enjoys cooking, she wonders why friends often dine out.
"It's very therapeutic for me," the Sharon resident says. "I'm in a different world when I'm doing something like that."
Tuesday, Chandra brings her kitchen into residents' living rooms through "Cooking Without Boundaries," a 30-minute program debuting on Sharon Community Television Channel 8.
The show will run Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Chandra said Monday that trying ingredients and recipes can help people "break out of the boundaries" they have with cooking.
Those boundaries include "a lack of time, a lack of skills, a lack of confidence, that sort of lead to a lack of cooking at home," she said.
She's encouraging people to "cook healthy, cook easy, eat meals with your family" and eat "less processed food and (eat) more natural food."
"I strongly believe that healthy food should not be without taste. That's an important ingredient in my cooking," said Chandra, who began cooking about 25 years ago.
The program is filmed in Chandra's kitchen, where she cooks for her husband and their two children, ages 12 and 14.
Each episode will feature three-to-five dishes, as well as a spice or spice group or vegetable group, she said.
Her premiere uses peppers to control the heat in four dishes: a rice dish, a fish dish, a vegetable dish and a salad.
