Arons Takes Second In Hock 55 Meters

senior co-captain Josh Arons placed second in the 55 meter dash at the Hockomock League winter track championships Saturday.

Arons' time of 6.72 seconds was right behind North Attleboro senior Alex Witkus, who finished in 6.67 seconds, Cool Running reported.

Sharon finished ninth in the 10-team field, with 8 points. Mansfield was first with 103.50 points, according to Cool Running.

The Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury hosted the meet.

The top six in each event scored points for their teams, Sharon throwing coach Alan Conway said.

Arons was the only Eagle to score.

However, junior Connor Hichens placed sixth in the long jump, a non-scoring event, with a leap of 19 feet, 2 inches. Hichens' mark qualified him for the state meet, Conway said.

Sharon also got top-10 finishes from: the 4 by 400 meter relay team, which was eighth, with a time of 3:45.80 minutes; junior Dan Scribner, who was tenth in the 600 meters, with a time of 1:32.53 minutes; and junior Ben Ryter, who was tenth in the 1000 meters, with a time of 2:49.09 minutes.
