Sharon Girls Travel U12 Soccer team plays in Semi-Finals on Columbus Day Weekend

The U12 Girls (C Team) Travel soccer team played in the semifinals at last weekend's Columbus Day tournament in Mansfield. In fact, they were the only team, boys or girls who made it to the playoffs.  The team is comprised of girls team is comprised of

5th graders (and a few 6th graders). According to the head coach, Anwar Upal, several of the girls had never played on a travel team before or as a part of organized soccer.

The girls lost their first two games on Saturday (playing in the rain), but came back to win their third game against the Golden Gators (4-1). They faced Mansfield (all six graders) in the semifinals on Sunday who were unbeaten and the same team Sharon had lost to the previous day, 7-0.

The girls played their hearts out against the older Mansfield team. At half time the game was still scoreless thanks to a strong defense and their goalie who had at least a dozen saves in the first half. Four minutes into the second half an unstoppable goal was scored against Sharon but the girls continued to give everything they had till the very end.

Even though the game ended with a score of 0-1, none of the girls seemed to mind (although several parents almost had a heart attack). The girls reveled knowing that they played their hardest against an incredibly strong team, held them to one goal and had the honor of representing Sharon in this tournament.
