Several Police Department promotions went into effect Sept. 26. 

Lieutenant John McGrath was promoted to deputy chief. He is the first police office to hold that position in department history. 

Sergeant John Ford was promoted to lieutenant. He has served on the Sharon Police Department since 1996. He is a former Sharon public school teacher. 

Officer Donald Brewer was promoted to sergeant. He has been a member of the Sharon Police Department since 2006. He will be assigned as a patrol supervisor. 

The three men were sworn into their new positions on Sept. 21.
